Brief Description: HS Front Spar Assembly

Matched drilled HS-702 spar channels, to HS-710/714 reinforcement angles. Tapered the ends of 714/710 with the bench grinder (rough) and then finished with the bench grinder scotch brite wheel.
Bent 710/714 using wood and a vise according to the manual. Didn't use the cardboard template as suggested. I used a protractor of sorts I had from Menards for wood working.

Countersunk the reinforcement angles. Dimpled the appropriate holes on 702. Cleco'd everything together (702/711/714). Prepared the ribs HS-404. Trimmed to fit... piece of cake

Brief Description: HS prep for assembly

Cleco'd HS-706/7/8 ribs to HS-603PP Rear Spar and to HS-702 Front spar.
Attached HS-601PP skin to the assembly. Installed HS-405 Main Rib and marked/drilled holes in forward flange. Did the same with HS-404.
The manual and DWG 3 were very confusing to me on the procedure so I did what I thought was right and it turned out nice.
Match drilled all holes in the skin to spar and ribs. Removed the skin and match drilled all ribs to spar. Next, disassembled everything and deburred all components. Followed by priming of HS-702 and ribs. I also primed the inside skins at the attach points for the spar and ribs.

No images. Riveted the reinforcement bars 710 and 714 to front spar 702.1st major mistake....had to drill out a rivet connecting ribs to HS702. Need bigger rivets to match hole size now. :{

Started off with the right side instead of left like the directions say. I made a mistake with the Front spar assembly and had to drill out a rivet therefore I am waiting on larger rivets to fill the hole.
Riveted HS-707 rib to the 601pp skin both top and bottom. Blind riveted HS-708 to HS-702 to HS-707.
Note picture 1 with my F4U Corsair ceiling fan in the reflection that my hottie wife Jo got me for my birthday a year or two ago.
Fixed some mistakes that I made last weekend. One was a double tap of the pneumatic squeezer while dimpling on the bottom side of the HS skin where the rear spar attaches. I flattened the dimple out and placed two new holes on either side and dimpled those. Made the corresponding holes in the rear spar. Putty will fill the double tapped hole... no biggie.
That makes 4 mistakes total so far... 2 holes on the 601pp skins that had to be made to accept size 4 rivets. Plus the other two errors listed above.

The Pneumatic squeezer double tap picture is shown. It is actually too large to fit a size 4 rivet. Decided to drill holes on either side and then will fill the gaping one with putty later on.
Finished up riveting the skin to the right horizontal stab.

Brief Description: HS Assembly - Done!

Got the larger rivets to fix my little screw up on the front spar. Finished the left skin and cleco'd the rear spar and riveted everything. It's all done except about 10 minutes worth of blind rivets in the rear spar. Broke out the VS which I had cleco'd last night (see VS page). Set it up with the HS. Started making airplane noises and dreamed of 200 mph fly by's at the local EAA events.
